Urgent Rooftop Membrane Spray Application with CIW Remedial

Project : Replace roof membrane on Sydney apartment building

Rooftop membrane spray to the rescue! CIW Remedial was called to urgently fix a residential apartment roof membrane in Arncliffe, Sydney. The roof was leaking allowing damaging moisture into the building and as a result, extreme discomfort and unsightly mould was causing distress to residents.

In days gone by, removing failed membranes in commercial and residential roof fixtures was a big job. Typically it would involve intense manual labour to remove the old membrane, dispose of it correctly, prepare a dry substrate and painstakingly apply the new membrane.

We’re pleased to offer more timely, cost-effective and efficient waterproofing solutions to our customers particularly in cases like this where the matter requires urgent attention, fast rectification and minimal disruption.

Modern rooftop membrane spray and waterproofing

Thanks to swift technology and CIW keeping their finger on the pulse of the construction waterproofing industry, membrane repairs that could often take weeks at great cost and disruption to building owners, can now be repaired quickly and effectively as a matter of urgency.

Benefits of Neoprene remedial waterproof rooftop spray

CIW was able to attend the urgent works and apply Neoprene remedial waterproof rooftop spray with fast and effective results.

This innovative spray membrane offers a multitude of benefits including:

Z

Lightweight material with excellent adhesive properties

Because it adheres to most roof surfaces, it usually eliminates the need to tear off existing roofs and dispose of old membranes. This has a positive environmental impact and greatly reduces labour and installation costs.

Z

Features a simple cold spray applied production and hose mounted cart

This ergonomic design allows for easy access to difficult and hard to reach areas. Such flexibility ensures the spray membrane is much quicker and easier to install.

Z

Can be sprayed to any millimeter thickness in a single pass

Precision installation enables us to seamlessly create a truly custom and perfect membrane. This ease of application allows for unparalleled architectural freedom.

While each application may differ from residential to commercial settings, there are few buildings that wouldn’t benefit from CIW Remedial’s quick installation sprays.

In this instance it was certainly quintessential for the Arncliffe project, providing cost-effective, lasting and optimal results in minimal time.

Sound the Alarm!
CIW Install Top Quality Polyurethane Resin by Neoferma to rescue the Ballina Fire Station.

Ballina Council has converted the historic Ballina Fire Station premises into a Community Arts Centre after being active for over 80 years. Unfortunately the old station was experiencing water ingress that urgently needed attention. A polyurethane resin sealant was required; but which product is most suited to a heritage listed property?

The CIW Remedial team were engaged to stop the ground water ingress into the historic engine pit to prevent any further damage. We got in touch with Neoferma to specify a polyurethane resin suitable for refurbishment works on the heritage listed building.

Neoferma and CIW to the rescue!

Neoferma have just introduced a new range of Polyurethane Resins and Acrylics – PUR-X and ACRYL-X. The PUR-X range has a multitude of benefits including variable reaction times, rigid and flexible foams and gels, permanent solutions as well as being eco-friendly.

We are happy to report that this emergency situation has been extinguished. The Fire Station is saved. Our team successfully completed the project using Hydrophilic Polyurethane Resins as specified by Neoferma.

Waterproof Leaks and Cracks With PUR-X Polyurethane Resins and Acrylics

One product in particular from Neoferma is PUR-X 300 which is an MDI based hydrophilic, one-component flexible polyurethane injection resin for waterproofing joints and cracks. In contact with the water the resin reacts and expands forming a permanent seal inside the leaking crack or construction joint.

The PUR-X Polyurethane resins range includes;

PUR-X 100 – Rigid Hydrophobic Injection Resin

PUR-X 100 is a 1-component, hydrophobic, water reactive, solvent and phthalate free, low viscosity polyurethane injection resin. In contact with water the PUR-X 100 will expand and react into a rigid closed cell foam. After full cure, the product will set as a permanent seal inside a crack joint, guaranteeing a long lasting waterproofing solution.

PUR-X 200 – Flexible Hydrophobic Injection Resin
PUR-X 200 performs the same as PUR-X 100 however will remain flexible with contact with water.

PUR-X 300 – Flexible Hydrophilic Injection Resin
PUR-X 300 is an MDI based hydrophilic, one component flexible polyurethane injection resin for waterproofing joints and cracks. In contact with water the resin reacts and expands forming a permanent seal inside the leaking crack or construction joint.

The ACRYL-X Polyurethane Acrylics range includes;

ACRYL-X 1000
ACRYL-X 1000 is a non-toxic aqueous solution of multifunctional acrylic monomers. The resin gels in a few seconds to a few minutes when an activator/initiator is added just before use. The final product is a soft and tacky cross-linked gel. In wet, or dry conditions, the volume of the gel increases, or decreases, in a reversible and waterproofing manner.

ACRYL-X 2000
ACRYL-X 2000 is a non-toxic aqueous solution of multifunctional acrylic monomers. The reaction time can be modified to meet conditions from a few seconds to a few minutes when an activator/initiator is added prior to use. The final product is a soft and tacky cross-linked gel. In wet, or dry conditions, the volume of the gel increases, or decreases, in a reversible and waterproofing manner.

BASEMENT WATERPROOFING DILEMMA
Neoferma Australia provides specialist products under their remedial solution company CIW Remedial. CIW Remedial products and services are able to solve waterproofing conundrums that other contractors may fail to resolve.

In this instance Ron Hudd Building Services teamed up with Neoferma’s Technical Consultant to provide the product and design solution.

$

THE PROJECT

A major Australian building company is constructing a large high rise residential project in a riverside city suburb of Brisbane. The design called for a three level car parking basement under the water table constructed using the secant pile basement wall system.
$

THE PROBLEM

The secant walls exhibited a number of problems to overcome in order to achieve a fully dry and waterproof basement, as required by the builder.

The gaps between the piles varied in width and often leaked, ingresses from above only served to exacerbate the problem.

The piles themselves were very rough and there was a great deal of loose laitance.
There was a strict requirement for vehicle turning space which obviated any application of a thick wall or other conventional waterproofing solution.

The floor slabs were already poured in place and the cold joints between the slabs and the secant piles were found to not be waterproof.
Ron Hudd Building Services, were called on by the builder after several other attempts by contractors failed to solve the problem.

$

THE SOLUTION

The basement was waterproofed using a negative side system specified by CIW Remedial, consisting of a shotcrete infill between the piles with vertical Jointstop waterstops to compartmentalise the structure & protect the reinforcing steel. The whole area was then coated with two coats of Westox Cementitious FMI+MCI membrane and shotcrete to a depth of 75mm over the waterproofing to form an integral system solution. The shotcrete was carried out by Team Rock Anchors.

COMMENTS

The builder said… “Problem solved on time, on budget and with minimal project disruption. The brief called for minimum loss of turning space within each of the basement levels which was successfully achieved. The finish is fantastic and the developer is very impressed”.

RHBS CEO Dave Hudd said “this was a complex job with sometimes unknown variables which called for diligence and innovation from my team plus valuable contributions from our material supply partners, Neoferma Australia, CIW Remedial and our shotcreting partners, Team Rock Anchors”.

Concrete and Basement Waterproofing using Neopanel

Concrete and Basement Waterproofing using Neopanel

Concrete and Basement Waterproofing using Neopanel

Concrete waterproofing protects a variety of existing below-ground structures that includes basements, underground houses, split-level buildings, underground storage areas and cellars.

These structures are prone to foundation failure, distress and moisture-induced problems that can lead to water seepage, mould formation and structural failure. Waterproofing basements in particular has always been a conundrum.

Over years as the footprint of the building became more valuable, the old method of battering down to the base of the wall then waterproofing the outside of the wall and backfilling was no longer viable.

Neoferma developed its patented basement waterproofing solution that fits even the most complicated of situations which is carried out by Neoferma’s remedial company CIW Remedial.

More than just a supply company, CIW Remedial has adopted a systematic approach to resolving the waterproofing problems presented. This has resulted in the supply of relevant, high performing waterproofing products that best meet the project specifications.

Waterproofing with NeoPanel

NeoPanel Basement Waterproofing System consists of the SwellSeal MS, Precast Panels and NeoJoint Gasket Systems.

How does NeoPanel Basement Waterproofing Works?

A reactive membrane is placed under the concrete floor, as well as to the wall substrate, before the walls are installed. This method allows the panel joints to seal from the negative side while providing a positive basement waterproofing that meets the requirements set by both the developer and builder.

SwellSeal Multi System bentonite Membrane (SwellSeal MS)

SwellSeal MS is a Branz approved system that integrates premium grade sodium bentonite granules with a Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL) made from high-quality polypropylene geotextiles.

SwellSeal MS is commonly used in situations that require protection against contaminated, saline water and areas affected by methane gas.

Precast Panels

Precast panels are manufactured offsite, saving installation time and labour costs. The use of precast panels results to better quality performance, because it eliminates possible damage or accidental removal of waterproofing membranes, from the walls during backfilling or any other subsequent operations.

NeoJoint Gasket System

The NeoJoint gasket system is a cost-effective solution for a watertight seal to an expansion joint. Aside from its excellent waterproofing features, NeoJoint also has good sound insulation capacity.

The joint also compresses easily and maintains close contact with concrete, glass or wood surfaces. Hence, resulting to the tight sealing of the joints. NeoJoint contributes to basement waterproofing as it can withstand the hydrostatic pressure of ten metres.

Conclusion

The NeoPanel concrete waterproofing system preserves the structural integrity by offering a self-sealing waterproofing solution that fits challenging environments. Further advantages to this pre-cast panelling system, include reduced on-site labour and improved site utilisation.
